Community-Acquired Pneumonia: Recent Advances

An acute infection of the pulmonary parenchyma caused by microorganisms present in the community is known as community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). These infections are very dissimilar from the group of pathogens that can be contracted from people who are immunocompromised or who are hospitalized (nosocomial pneumonia). The pathogens that cause CAP can be classified as bacterial, viral, or fungal. We have listed all of the most prevalent creatures, and the list is thorough. In endemic regions, CAP can also be brought on by fungi, despite the fact that bacteria or viruses are the primary culprits. Despite significant improvements in detection methods, infections are only found in 38% of patients, 23% of which are composed primarily of one or more viruses, followed by 11% of bacteria and 3% of mixed bacteria. The infectious process of pneumonia begins with the entry of pathogenic organisms into the lung parenchyma. The choice of antibiotics for therapy depends on the patient’s attitude, the severity of the disease, comorbidities, and risk factors for microorganisms with a high propensity for aggression. When selecting an antibiotic, local resistance rates should be taken into account.
