Evaluation of Rutting Resistance of RAP Blended Binder with Sasobit as a Rejuvenator Using MSCR
摘要
Sustainable construction brings out a balance in environment, economy, and society. Pavement recycling can be considered as a potential alternative toward waste reduction and cost saving. Long-term exposure to traffic and environmental conditions leads to poor cracking performance and higher stiffness of aged binder. Due to this, the percentage of reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) used in roads is less. A rejuvenator is necessary while employing greater RAP content. But the rejuvenator softens the binder to an extent at which its rutting resistance may decrease. To create a balance between cracking and rutting, appropriate proportions of RAP binder and rejuvenator must be used. In this paper, the rutting resistance has been evaluated for RAP binder mixed with VG30 and Sasobit as a rejuvenator. The dynamic shear rheometer was used to carry out multiple stress creep recovery (MSCR). Five samples were studied: neat bitumen (VG30), VG30 + 20%RAP binder with 0, 1, 2, 3% dosage of Sasobit. Considering non-recoverable creep compliance (Jnr) and percentage recovery (%R) from the tests performed, it is indicated that the RAP binder and Sasobit improve the rutting resistance of bitumen. Results showcase that an increase in stress level along with temperature impacts significantly asphalt binder’s performance.
