Methods Comparison of Seismic Fragility for Indian Code-Compliant RC Frame

In the last two decades, the seismic fragility analysis has gained lot of attention and is used widely across the globe to compute the seismic collapse probability of buildings. Evaluation of seismic fragility-based nonlinear structural analysis plays an important role in determining the likelihood of building damage. This research examines a four-storey, midrise, reinforced concrete (RC) frame structure in seismic zone-III. Incremental dynamic analysis (IDA) and nonlinear static pushover analysis (NSPA) are performed to analyse the RC frame. The NSPA and IDA data are carried out to construct fragility curves based on expected performance limit requirements. The fragility curves produced from NSPA data are fitted using a normal to binomial distribution approximation. In the case of IDA, however, the standard methodology is taken in to consideration, and the fragility function is fitted using linear regression. At the performance point, the likelihood of various damage states is determined for seismic risks corresponding to Zones-III, IV, and V. For RC frame building research, the chance of occurrence for various damage states varies up to 50 per cent. A comparison of the NSPA and IDA techniques demonstrates that both are effective at calculating the likelihood of occurrence of various damage states and post-seismic reaction for the RC frame.
