Electrochemical Sensing of Lung Cancer-Related Volatile Organic Compounds Using Polycaprolactone/Polyaniline Composite Fiber Electrodes

An earlier diagnosis is required to establish a treatment plan that is more likely to be successful. Most tumors are found in the metastatic stage. As per a study, approximately 85% of instances of lung cancer are attributed to non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). To detect biological analytes such as proteins, DNA, RNA, antibodies, enzymes, and specific volatile organic compounds (VOCs) biosensors employ a variety of transduction techniques. The adenocarcinoma of the lung was studied using A549 cell lines. Using an electrochemical proboscis device, we investigated the electrochemical characteristics (CV and EIS) of a novel functionalized electrospun nanofibrous electrode material, both with and without the analyte present. Polycaprolactone (PCL) and polyaniline (PANI) composite were used for the electrode. Voltammograms and EIS impedance spectra with telltale changes indicated the presence of the analyte of interest. Gas Chromatography (GC) verified and supported the findings.
