摘要

Researchers’ interest in solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) technology is growing as it offers a promising alternative to conventional power generation systems in terms of energy efficiency, fuel flexibility, and environmental impact. The ionic conductivity and mechanical strength of electrolyte material are the deciding factors for the operating condition of SOFC. The co-doped scandia stabilized zirconia electrolyte powder with the composition (Sc0.1Ce0.01Zr0.89O2-δ)0.98 (Al2O3)0.02 (10ScCeSZ-Al) has been synthesized by the solution combustion method. The powder was systematically characterized for phase and morphology. The synthesized powder was suitable for tape casting. Pellets were made with the fabricated tapes by punching the tapes to the desired shape followed by lamination and sintering. The developed electrolyte exhibits an electrical conductivity of 0.029 S/cm at 700 °C. SOFC button cells are prepared by an industrially scalable tape-cast process and the performance of the cell is studied. A maximum power density of 191 mW/cm2 is obtained at 850 °C in a 1 mm thick 10ScCeSZ-Al electrolyte-supported button cell.
