Fast Simulation Model of Power Conversion System for Energy Storage System

Energy storage system (ESS) has been widely researched and applied nowadays, because of the good performances, such as suppression of fluctuations of renewable energy sources, peak load shifting, flexible regulation of power and frequency, etc. The power conversion system (PCS) is the key apparatus in ESS, and its performances are inevitably verified and simulated in electromagnetic transient environment. However, when the large-scale ESS is simulated, massive switching devices are simulated and driven in model, simultaneously, where the simulation time is tremendously long, the simulation efficiency is very low. Therefore, an equivalent fast simulation model of PCS for ESS is proposed in this paper, where the controlled voltage and current sources are used to replace the switching devices in each phase. The working principle and control strategy of proposed fast simulation model are introduced in detail. Finally, the high accuracy and efficiency of proposed fast model are validated by the simulated comparison with detailed switch model.
