Research Progress and Trends of Insulating Oil for Transformers

Insulating oil is an important insulating material for electrical equipment. This paper firstly introduces the conventional performance indexes of insulating oils and summarizes the current status of research on nano-modified transformer insulating oils. Secondly, this paper reviews the current status of research on key properties of transformer oils such as failure, aging and heat dissipation. This paper also analyses the relationship between parameters such as flash point and dielectric loss factor of existing insulating oils and molecular structure. Finally, this paper concludes that quantum chemical calculations can help to achieve the molecular design of new insulating oils, and suggests the establishment of a model for the constitutive relationship between the macroscopic properties and microscopic parameters of insulating oils in order to improve the design efficiency of environmentally friendly insulating oils.
