Critical Interplay of Dust Deposition and Operational Challenges in Large-Scale PV Plants

Photovoltaic (PV) systems as one of the most vital parts of sustainable energy solutions, face significant challenges from dust and soiling. This review paper includes findings from some previous studies, exploring the multifaceted effects of dust and soiling on PV performance and efficiency. Key areas of focus such as the connection between spectral transmittance and dust density, with special attention to variations on inclined modules. The effects of both dust and soiling on technology and potential economic consideration are thoroughly examined, also underlining their possible payback times. Including investigated the distinct monitoring methodologies, both direct and indirect, emerge as instrumental in optimizing energy performance and enhancing investment returns in PV systems. Delving deeper into the review highlights the sensitivity of PV panels to dust density, clarifies the significant consequences for solar cell efficiency. Studies in places like Baghdad, given the example of region-specific effects and demonstrate the diverse difficulties that dust and soiling across different geographic locations. The chosen research emphasizes the need for continuous innovation in mitigation strategies and adaptive monitoring approaches to maintain the global development and efficiency of solar PV systems.
