Is “Machine Will” a Contradiction in Terms?

Granting Sophia citizenship was merely a publicity stunt by corporations and governments, as AI technology has not yet evolved to the point where machines possess will, the ability to exercise rights, fulfill obligations, or bear responsibility. Thus, citizen Sophia exists in name only, lacking universal significance. However, isolating the question of whether machines can hold the status of rights subjects is not without value. From the development trend, whether artificial intelligence can have consciousness depends on how consciousness is defined. More likely, before artificial intelligence has consciousness, the relationship between machines and humans has already undergone major changes, and the issues of rights, obligations, and responsibilities caused by artificial intelligence are therefore inevitable.
