Harnessing the Targeting Potential of Nano-biomaterials to Treat Autoimmune Skin Disorders

Autoimmune skin disorders (AISD) stem from immune system malfunction, causing diseases like psoriasis and vitiligo. Current treatments pose challenges due to side effects and skin barrier limitations. This chapter explores nano-biomaterials, emphasizing lipid-based systems, as promising solutions for AISD. These materials enhance drug delivery, offering biocompatibility, biodegradability, and mimicking cell membrane structures. Nano-biomaterial-based systems, including lipid, polymer, and metal-based nanoparticles, show success in treating AISD, but further exploration is needed for specific disorders like psoriasis, discoid lupus, epidermolysis bullosa, atopic dermatitis, etc. Nano-biomaterials demonstrate potential for enhanced therapeutic efficacy with minimized toxicity, hinting at future commercialization for AISD treatment.
