Nano-biomaterial Mediated Delivery of Therapeutic Agents for the Treatment of Gastrointestinal Diseases
摘要
Gastrointestinal diseases result in a massive health-associated economic burden to society, including Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, and chronic inflammation. The uncontrolled release of steroids and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, including antimicrobial, anticancer, and antidiabetic drugs, through conventional therapeutic approaches can develop side effects, adverse effects, poor bioavailability, and microbial resistance. Nano-biomaterial-mediated therapy is a potential tool to overcome challenges and improve therapeutic windows. This chapter discusses the synthesis and properties of nano-biomaterial-mediated delivery systems like (bio)-polymeric nanogels, nanoparticles, liposomes, and micelles for antimicrobial, anticancer, and antidiabetic drugs.
