Folic Acid Supplementation During Pregnancy
摘要
It is recommended that women take a folic acid supplement of 0.4 mg/day during pregnancy to prevent neural tube defects. However, studies have shown that antiseizure medication use may cause a further deficiency of folic acid. Therefore, it is recommended that all women with epilepsy should take higher doses of folic acid per day before and during pregnancy. This chapter summarizes recommendations for folic acid supplementation and discusses benefits and potential harms of high dose folic acid for women with epilepsy.
