Clay-based polymer composites have gathered significant attention in biomedical applications owing to their unique properties and versatility. This chapter explores the diverse types of clay and polymers utilized in biomedical fields, focusing on their biocompatibility and suitability for such applications. Various preparation techniques, including melt blending, solution blending, and in-situ polymerization, are discussed in detail, explaining their advantages and limitations in synthesizing clay-polymer hybrids. Characterization methods for evaluating the properties of these composites are outlined, encompassing techniques such as FTIR, XRD. Understanding these characteristics is vital for tailoring composite materials to meet specific biomedical requirements effectively. The biomedical applications of clay-based polymer composites span a wide range, including drug delivery systems, tissue engineering scaffolds, wound dressings, and medical implants. These composites offer enhanced mechanical strength, controlled drug release kinetics, and biocompatibility, making them promising candidates for various biomedical applications. Moreover, their tunable properties allow for customization according to specific application needs, further expanding their utility in the field.
