Synthesis, Properties, and Characterization of Fibrous Filler
摘要
Creating a complete material that satisfies criteria like durability, manufacturability, low cost, and lightweight is the current goal for material scientists and researchers. At this moment, composites based materials have been come to the forefront which satisfies the demand of society. To fabricate any type composite materials, the reinforcing materials (i.e. fillers) are one most important component which is responsible for achieving the characteristic properties in composite materials. Among various filler materials, fibers have mostly been employed in composite materials as reinforcing materials for the past ten years to give lightweight materials with increased stiffness, modulus, and strength. This chapter points out both natural and synthetic fibers used as fillers in the fabrication of composites for various applications. In addition, the synthesis, characteristic properties, and characterization techniques of both natural and synthetic fibers have been elaborated here. Finally, the chapter concluded with a summarization of future prospects of the fibrous fillers with respect to their application in various sections of society.
