This chapter provides a comprehensive coverage of zein as a natural polymer, with a focus on its properties that are pertinent to biomedical applications. Additionally, the chapter investigates into the specific techniques for synthesising, processing, and characterising zein composites. This chapter will provide an overview of the diverse polymer matrices and reinforcement materials utilised in zein composites for biomedical applications, along with an examination of the various fabrication techniques employed. The aim of this study is to offer a thorough comprehension of the potential of zein-based polymer composites in various biomedical applications such as controlled drug delivery, tissue engineering scaffolds, wound healing, imaging and diagnostics, and 3D printing. This research endeavour is expected to contribute to the progress of biomedicine and personalised healthcare.
