Collaborative Climate Actions: Integrity and Cooperation in the Global South

This chapter deals with the need for regional policy implications for climate adaptation strategies and proper climate actions that could address the transboundary implications of climate change. While the global south witnesses the adverse climatic conditions and associated vulnerabilities to impacts severely the low-incoming population through different natural and socioeconomic channels, the authors propose the necessity of cooperative mitigation strategies at the regional level. The gap in the strategies between the global framework of climate change and the national adaptation policies leaves spaces for regional economic blocks to act. The authors try to examine the climate policies adopted, so far, by the major economic blocks in the region, mainly the SAARC for South-Esat Asia, the African Union for Africa, and the MERCOSUR for Latin America. It will help identify major lacunas raised in the way of constructive political dialogues, effective integration, and regional cooperation that will not only benefit the poor but also, in many ways, serve to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals for the states under the potential climate stress in the entire Global South.
