Development of Flood Early Warning System by Monitoring Pagoh River Water Level and Rainfall Distribution

Floods occur on a yearly basis in Peninsular Malaysia, mainly during the monsoon seasons, which begin in October for the second inter monsoon and end in November and December for the early Northeast monsoon. Floods often cause physical and financial damage. In order to help residents living in low-lying areas to prepare for floods, a system for monitoring river water levels and the amount of rainfall is needed. Therefore, this project has been developed to monitor the water level of the river, measure the intensity of rain around the river, and collect recordings of the live flow of the river before, during, and after the flood to help residents know the current state of the river. This project uses a TF02 Pro-IP65 Lidar type sensor as a detector for the river water level, an ultrasonic sensor as a detector of the amount of rainwater and an ESP32 camera as a camera to record footage around the river. The data obtained from the river water level sensor and rainwater volume sensor will be processed using an ESP32 type microcontroller. While the ESP32 camera is able to process the data it gets and display it in the application. By using a centralized Internet of Things (IoT) application, Blynk, the output from these three components can provide real results about the current state of the river's water level and the danger of flooding. This project has shown success in alerting individuals about the river water level and the current status of the Pagoh river.
