摘要

In this chapter Role Theory's application in social WorkSocial work, particularly within the Indian sociocultural context, is presented. It explores how societal roles, deeply influenced by the caste system and traditional hierarchies, shape individual behavior and social expectations. The chapter highlights key concepts like role performance, role sets, and role rigor, which dictate societal norms and compliance. Through practical examples, such as interactions with marginalized groups, the chapter illustrates the challenges social workers face when addressing entrenched cultural norms. By applying Role Theory, social workers can better navigate complex social dynamics and intervene in ways that challenge social inequalities and improve client outcomes.
