Group Process

Group processGroup process refers to all the group’s happenings, including the interactional and communication patterns among all members and the Worker/Leader. This chapter examines the critical group process components, such as subgroup development, group conflicts, scapegoating, and different models of group development. The group development models discussed include the Social Goals/Boston Model, the Michigan/Remedial Model, Mediating Model, and the Ecological Model. In addition, group conflict, along with explanations of allogenic conflict and the implications for practice are presented. The process components are reviewed and then discussed in the task-centered and Strengths Perspective of group work practice.
