Detection of Sepsis Inflammatory Factors Based on the Terahertz-Metasurface Biosensor

摘要

Sepsis is a highly dynamic and complex condition with the potential to progress rapidly to critical organ dysfunction and death. Timely detection and management of sepsis is critical as it has the potential to significantly reduce mortality and improve overall clinical outcomes. However, current clinical detection techniques are limited by plenty of factors that make it difficult to meet the requirements, and therefore a rapid and highly sensitive detection method is urgently needed. Here, we propose a plasma terahertz metasurface biosensor based on the principle of surface plasmon resonance. Meanwhile, we integrated an antibody-functionalized metasurface for real-time binding detection of inflammatory factors calcitoninogen (PCT) and interleukin-10 (IL-10) solutions with detection limits as low as 1 μg/mL. In summary, the designed terahertz metal surface biosensor not only has the advantages of low detection limit and high degree of automation, but also has a broad application prospect in biomedical field.
