  • Chaolin Gu

摘要

This chapter is the concluding chapter. It is on the prospect of China’s urbanization. After detailed explanation of China’s urbanization space, process, and models, it foresees that in around 2050 China will develop into a moderately-developed country with citizens earning relatively high income. Therefore, the urbanization space, process and models are expected to shift from quantitative growth, non-agriculturalization and landscape change to quality improvement, lifestyle transformation and cultural change. With these ideas, the first section has given a vision of China as a country of medium-high income and how this will shape people’s life and economic development pattern. The second section continues with a vision of China as an urbanized country. It has projected China’s population, workforce, and urbanization rate. It also proposes the urbanization agenda and the possible urban system. The third section presents what a high-quality urban lifestyle might look like and emphasizes the construction of digital infrastructure, the provision of new consumer facilities and the necessity of low-carbon lifestyle. It ends with the argument that China need to re-globalize its manufacturing for its economy and welcome the emerging world megaregion as a response to the re-globalization of China’s manufacturing.
