From the “Inspiration” to “Perception” of Creative Writing Course Design: A Case Study of Hong Kong Metropolitan University’s Creative Writing Programme
摘要
As the number of guidebooks and reference books on writing mushroom in the book market, more contemporary writers launch courses on online platforms, indirectly triggering the review of the positioning and pedagogical mode of the new academic discipline of “creative writing” in its alignment with the demand of writing capacity and creativity in the current development trend. In particular, how can creative writing go beyond the pedagogy that teaches through inspiration and fosters creativity in a practical sense which improves the capacities of writing and critical thinking? This remains the core concern of the field. To address this question, Hong Kong Metropolitan University’s Creative Writing Programme can serve as a case study in deconstructing the idea of inspiration and generating perspectives through perception. In the University’s Creative Writing Programme, the negotiation of meaning and the mutual support between contemporary art and literature of the course “Literary Writing and Visual Culture” can function as a thought-provoking case study.
