Automated Volunteer Scheduler for Sporting Events Using First Come First Serve Approach

摘要

Sporting events heavily rely on volunteers for effective operations. As the demand for volunteers’ surges, the necessity for structured management of their information, task preferences, and proficiencies becomes a necessity to avoid potential operational challenges. Current manual scheduling methods, although traditional, often fall short, often resulting in inefficiencies and, at times, an under-utilization of skilled volunteers across varying sports events. In light of these challenges, this research embarked on an in-depth evaluation of the First Come First Serve (FCFS) algorithm, specifically concerning volunteer scheduling. Key performance indicators assessed included accuracy, response duration, waiting periods, and turnaround times. Results were promising where the FCFS algorithm demonstrated 100% accuracy rate in the volunteer allocation process. Furthermore, the algorithm showed proficiency in systematically pairing volunteers with appropriate sports and venues, primarily based on their individual skill sets and task affinities. An interesting observation was the proportional increase in the performance metrics of the FCFS algorithm with an increase in volunteer count. To cap it off, the newly introduced web-centric Sports Volunteer Scheduling System, integrated with the FCFS algorithm, offers a robust solution, ensuring volunteers with matching skills and preferences are strategically aligned to suitable sporting events and venue assignments.
