Analysis of Knee Injuries in Tai Ji Quan Athletes Based on Selective Functional Movement Assessment Perspective

This study investigates the musculoskeletal ramifications of knee pain in Tai Ji Quan practitioners, delving into the intricate relationship between knee pain, adjacent joint dysfunction, and gender-specific joint characteristics. Utilizing the SFMA, 87 participants from Chengdu Sport University underwent comprehensive assessments. The findings unveiled that 88.68% of individuals with knee pain exhibited dysfunction in adjacent joints, emphasizing a strong correlation. Specific movements, such as “swinging the foot and dropping the fork” and “turning around and swinging the lotus,” were identified as challenging, prompting knee compensatory behaviors in the presence of hip and ankle function disorders. Gender disparities highlighted superior hip and ankle mobility in females but weaker ankle stability. Moreover, male participants demonstrated a lower likelihood of dysfunctions in specific movements. These insights underscore the need for tailored interventions to optimize musculoskeletal well-being in Tai Ji Quan practitioners, considering individualized characteristics and movement patterns.
