Polyurethane (PU) has emerged as a highly prevalent polymer within the sports business because to its exceptional characteristics, such as its remarkable durability, flexibility, and resistance to external factors. This article provides a thorough analysis of the synthesis, characteristics, and advancements of polyurethane (PU), with a specific emphasis on its application in sports surfaces and equipment. The integration of 4D printing technology has resulted in a notable paradigm shift in the application of polyurethane (PU), particularly in the manufacturing of customized sports gear like mouthguards. Moreover, this study investigates the prospective applications of polyurethane (PU) in the domains of sound absorption, thermal insulation in athletic equipment, and its role in contemporary sports surfaces. While polyurethane (PU) offers certain advantages, it is crucial to recognize the presence of specific issues such as wear, degradation, and the need for enhanced durability. The conclusion of the article underscores the imperative of continued research in order to address these challenges effectively and optimize the utilization of polyurethane in sports-related contexts.
