摘要

In the discipline of speed measurement, methods such as camera systems and timing gates have proven effective but are often quite expensive. Therefore, the objective of this study was to address the need for a cost-effective solution by developing a sprint test device referred to as ‘mini timing gates’ for assessing speed performance among Cadet Officer. The device's development incorporates an input sensor, utilizing an Infrared (IR) sensor and a microcontroller known as Arduino Uno. The microcontroller efficiently processes sensor signals, resulting in multiple output indicators, including Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs), a Liquid-Crystal Display (LCD) screen and a buzzer. Remarkably, this study successfully achieves the creation of mini timing gates with a budget-friendly cost, totaling less than 500.00 Malaysian Ringgit. The design prioritizes accessibility and affordability, catering to a broad user base encompassing individuals from various backgrounds and categories. Beyond cost-efficiency, this device represents a significant leap forward in terms of energy conservation while consistently delivering reliable and precise results. The mini timing gates offer a promising solution for assessing speed performance without the burden of extremely high costs, making them a valuable tool not only in military but also in sports and athletic settings.
