Green Technology in Sports: The Role of Waste Management in Sustainable Stadiums

The present review study explores the growing importance of environmentally sustainable technology in the field of sports. The sports industry has experienced an increase in the utilization of environmentally friendly technologies due to a growing focus on sustainability and environmental awareness. These technologies cover the utilization of renewable energy sources, sustainable materials, and effective waste management systems in sports facilities. Massive sporting events, which draw in substantial crowds, have a significant ecological footprint, encompassing the production of waste, utilization of energy, and release of carbon dioxide. The implementation of efficient waste management practices plays a crucial role in mitigating the environmental impact of such events and safeguarding the long-term viability of sports facilities. This study delves into the several strategies utilized in waste management, including recycling, composting, and waste-to-energy conversions. The incorporation of digital and smart technology has also been emphasized, exemplified by advancements such as intelligent waste bins and digital monitoring platforms. Various case studies conducted in different regions, such as Kazakhstan, Bandung, and Kerman Graduate University, offer valuable insights into the pragmatic application of these technologies. Notwithstanding the progress made, there exist areas of research that remain unexplored, particularly in the full examination of the implementation of green technology within sports facilities. Potential avenues for future research encompass a more comprehensive investigation into the sociological dimensions of waste management within the realm of sports, as well as an examination of the influence of legislation and regulation in fostering ecologically sustainable behaviors.
