The Urban Sustainability of Paris 2024: Achievements and Pitfalls

In the follow-up of Olympic Agenda 2020, Paris 2024 has committed to deliver more sustainable Games. Efforts were put in designing innovative solutions to improve the sustainability of new buildings and of Games’ preparation and operation activities, with a focus on, among others, reducing carbon emissions. However, this narrow definition of “Olympic Sustainability” is mostly focused on the ecological footprint and it does not properly consider all social, economic and environmental aspects of sustainability. This chapter centres on such a discussion from an urban sustainability point of view, taking into account the Paris 2024 Games’ concept and impacts.
