Paris 2024: The Media Coverage of an Uncontroversial Candidacy
摘要
The Olympic Games bid is particularly publicized and politicized, as public opinion cannot be excluded from the project. This study is based on a corpus of over 9000 press articles. Its aim is to analyse the way in which the themes put forward as soon as the 2024 Games are discussed are presented in the public arena. We begin by identifying the main arguments and rhetorical strategies to promote the event; this chapter focuses in particular on the figure of the “promise of happiness”. Finally, we look at the opponents of the games, who turn out to be highly invisible.
