Paris 2024, a Legacy of Previous Bids?
摘要
The Paris bid to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2024 was largely founded on the prior existence of almost all of the facilities required to hold the sports events. The purpose of this chapter is to examine the extent of the legacy of Paris’s previous bids for 2008 and 2012 Games. It will demonstrate that the desire to host the Games plays a decisive role in the construction, renovation, and expansion of sports facilities. To do so, the paper focuses on the following facilities: the velodrome, the water-sports centre, and the Roland Garros tennis stadium. The aim of this study is to identify both the prospect of hosting such an event and the myriad expected uses to which the facilities would be put.
