Preparing the Legacy of the Games: Women’s Participation in Sport Activities in the Public Spaces in Paris

This chapter aims to analyse the implementation of a program aimed at promoting female sports participation in open-access sports facilities, focusing on the “Paris Sportives” initiative launched by the city of Paris as part of the legacy of the 2024 Olympic Games. The research question revolves around the effectiveness of this public action, assessed two years after its launch, and examines the governance of the legacy of the Paris 2024 Games as well as the complexity of its implementation. This chapter contextualizes the program’s outcomes within the broader context of public action for gender equality, highlighting the importance of considering the timing of these actions and adopting a long-term, cross-cutting perspective on the legacy of the Olympic Games.
