Image’ Change Linked to Paris 2024 Olympic Games in Seine-Saint-Denis and Tourism: A Possible Legacy?

The 2024 summer Olympic Games will be held in Paris but also in Seine-Saint-Denis, an area characterised by working-class neighbourhoods. Most of the new Olympic infrastructures are concentrated here and this county is hosting several events. The aim of this chapter is to undertake a first analysis of the possible impact of the Olympic Games on the Seine-Saint-Denis’s image and therefore on tourism. An ex-ante survey is used to present the département’s current image. Then, we provide a first analysis of the possibility of an image change linked with the Olympic Games. We show that international tourists are less present in Seine-Saint-Denis. We also show that there will be minimal change in its image. However, the policies pursued by different actors in this territory to communicate on tourism, combined with the small image change, might lead to an influx of tourists.
