This study investigates the transformative effects of digital technology adoption on Taiwan FamilyMart, a prominent convenience store chain in Taiwan, with a particular focus on the period before and after the COVID-19 pandemic. The analysis encompasses four key dimensions: retailers, consumers, employees, and society, as proposed by Hagberg et al. (2016). A comparative evaluation with Japan FamilyMart, the parent company, sheds light on the innovative aspects of Taiwan FamilyMart’ s digitalization efforts in the local market. The research reveals that Taiwan FamilyMart initiated its digital transformation (DX) journey in 2018, positioning itself as an early adopter. The emergence of COVID-19 in 2020 accelerated this digitalization process, prompting the company to embrace new digital technologies rapidly. As a result, the number of digital memberships surged, contributing significantly to revenue growth. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, Taiwan FamilyMart saw consistent growth in store numbers, profit margins, and revenue from 2020 to 2023. Furthermore, the study demonstrates that digitalization has had a positive impact on retailers by enhancing inventory management and data analytics. Consumers have benefited from a more convenient shopping experience, while employees have adapted to more efficient work processes. Additionally, digitalization has contributed to society through initiatives like fundraising, cashless payments, and delivery services, aligning with corporate sustainability goals. Overall, this research underscores the profound influence of digital technology on a traditional retail business, emphasizing how Taiwan FamilyMart’ s innovative approach has positioned it as a leader in the local market.
