Deepfakes, Deception and the Law: Unraveling the Legal Complexities of AI-Generated Content

The technology of AI has created uproar in our lives with the good, the bad and the ugly of it. In the past few years, AI deepfakes have created a world of misinformation and synthetic (un)reality. This synthetic reality with AI has become a bane for society and the information world. As AI and deepfakes continue to improve, their impact on society becomes increasingly important. Concern about AI systems stems from the fact that they can cause harm and make evidence less accurate and reliable. The use of AI to make legal decisions and to decide sentences could significantly change the way legal cases and decisions are made. AI systems also make it difficult to protect privacy and data. People, businesses and governments must be aware of what the deepfake means for IPR and take steps to protect and respect these rights. This means formulating clear rules and guidelines on how to use and protect deepfake works and spending on technologies and methods for finding and proving their authenticity. Legal experts should explain to their clients how shallow lies can be used in court and help them develop plans to use shallow lies to their advantage. This study will analyze the current legal treatment of AI and deepfake, assess potential risks and damages, examine existing laws and regulations and identify gaps and limitations. The effects of AI and deepfakes on privacy, ethics and fake news dissemination will also be studied.
