A Review of Physiological Signal-Based Driving Behavior Analysis

The casualties and property damage caused by road traffic accidents have made road safety a focal point of social concern. Human causes account for more than 90% of traffic accidents, so driving behavior analysis and driving intention prediction play a key role in active safety. The driver’s intention is a visual representation of brain activity and other physiological signals. This paper investigates the latest research results on driving intentions based on drivers’ physiological signals and analyzes the physiological characteristics of driving behaviors and intentions starting from the basic theories related to the fusion of various physiological signals and multimodal information. To summarize the characteristics and differences of methods for identifying driving intentions using electroencephalography (EEG) signals, electromyography (EMG) signals, hemoglobin concentrations, frictional electrical signals, and fusion of multimodal physiological information. Finally, the challenges and trends of driving intention research based on physiological signals are pointed out.
