Synthesis and Characterization of Composites of AA6063 with Graphene and Graphite Towards Corrosion for Marine Applications
摘要
The aim is to investigate the effects of incorporating graphite and graphene, in varying percentages (2.2, 2.4, and 2.6 wt%), into AA 6063 aluminium alloy through the stir casting process. The primary objective was to enhance the mechanical properties and reduce corrosion susceptibility of the alloy. Corrosion testing, tensile tests, and hardness tests were conducted on both solutionized and precipitation hardened samples. The study found that the addition of graphite and graphene in small amounts to AA 6063 during the stir casting process yielded significant improvements in mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. Through subsequent solutionizing and precipitation hardening, the samples exhibited enhanced strength and durability. The investigation concentrated on the alloy's use in the manufacture of boats and ships. The study followed the AA 6063 composition criteria of the Aluminum Association, which contain silicon and magnesium as alloying elements. This study effectively examined the effects of adding graphite and graphene to AA 6063 aluminium alloy in various amounts ranging from 2 weight percent of graphite and graphene to 2.7 weight percent of graphite and graphene. The results highlight the opportunity to use this modified alloy to address erosion and corrosion issues in aluminium alloy ships exposed to seawater, particularly for marine applications.
