The Accumulation of Senescent Cells and Diseases

This chapter explains the main findings in the literature about the impact of senescent cell accumulation on the development of age-associated diseases. The diseases explored in this chapter include type 2 diabetes, type 1 diabetes, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, obesity-induced metabolic dysfunction, viral infections, ophthalmic diseases, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, obesity-related diseases, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, and periodontitis. The purpose of this chapter is to present the findings in the literature that show that the accumulation of senescent cells can contribute to the development of age-associated diseases.
