Assessment of Park Use Demand and Behavior

Park use behavior has been the focus of studies on parks and green spaces, but it has seldom been explored in a compact city. Residents’ actual park use demand in relation with park use behavior has seldom been studied in previous studies. In this chapter, respondents’ park use demand and behavior were comprehensively investigated based on data collected in household survey (N = 597). Specifically, residents’ accessibility, park use demand, and park use behavior were compared among different socioeconomic and sociodemographic groups, with the aim of exploring whether disparities between social groups exist. In addition, comparison of park use demand and behavior was conducted among four study sites, in order to explore the influence of park provision on park usage. More importantly, in order to systematically understand the types and relative importance of influential factors on park use demand and behavior, a model was built based on the Theory of Planning Behavior (TPB), using structural equation modeling (SEM).
