Digital Supply Chain Reshaping Industrial Ecology: A Study from the Pharma Industry

The relationship between digital supply chain, inventory management, and industrial ecology is multifaceted and increasingly significant in pursuing sustainable development. Integrating digital technologies like blockchain and artificial intelligence (AI) into supply chains can enhance transparency, traceability, and accountability. This leads to more efficient resource use, better coordination, and reduced environmental impacts. Effective inventory management can optimize stock levels, reduce waste, and support circular business models when combined with digital tools. This is crucial for minimizing the ecological footprint of industrial activities. Maximizing the use of resources and reducing environmental impacts through designing industrial systems that mimic natural ecosystems. The digital supply chain and smart inventory management are vital to achieving these goals. This chapter details a digital supply chain tool a manufacturing company can use to stabilize their schedules and improve inventory management. A pharmaceutical company in Pakistan is studied based on exploratory research. The study suggests using data analytics tools as it helps all stakeholders communicate clearly about the current status of the whole supply chain and also lets the organization find and fix delays that affect meeting deadlines and the overall efficiencies and improve the processes.
