Mapping Solutions: Integrating GIS and Web Maps to Address Crisis in Iraq
摘要
The advance of ISIS in June 2014 and its invasion of large areas of Iraq left a dire situation, as it caused the displacement of millions of displaced people in separate areas of Iraq, and they became living in camps and in harsh and complex living conditions imposed by the reality of displacement. Although more than 3 years have passed since the end of the war against the terrorist organization and the Islamic State and the liberation of the provinces it controls in Iraq, the Iraqi government is serious about ending the crisis of the displaced, restoring stability, and facilitating the voluntary return of all the displaced, and initiating construction processes to solve the problem. We aim to introduce web maps and geographic information systems and highlight their role and relationships between them. It also aims to stimulate the adoption of this software to reduce costs and promote local technological development. In addition to highlighting, the most important advantages of this software, such as ease of implementation and good use, the ability to analyze and display spatial data and produce professional maps for the location of the displaced in the Iraqi governorates. To achieve these goals, the analytical approach was followed by analyzing the data of the displaced on the one hand. Research tools were used, the most important of which is spatial analysis through the ArcGIS program.
