Optimization of Double-Tuned Mass Dampers via Jaya Algorithm

To avoid collapse or damage of structures during earthquakes, advanced design techniques are needed. A vibration absorber device called tuned mass damper (TMD) can be implemented for this scope. It is a structural control method that was practically applied on the top of the structure. In the content of this study, a type of TMD that is double-tuned mass dampers (DTMD) is optimized for structures. In optimization, Jaya algorithm is employed and it is a user-friendly metaheuristic method. The optimization is done for the time-history results of several earthquake excitations and a constraint that limits the stroke of TMD is considered. The performance of optimum DTMD was compared with the previous methods and it has advantages in the reduction of structural displacement that is the objective function.
