Design, Interface, and Control of Smart Two-Axis Table for Plotting and Drilling Operations Based on Atmega328P Microcontroller

摘要

With the rapid growth of technology and increasing demand for a machine that can reduce the time consumed for plotting and drilling while delivering high-quality products, this paper demonstrates the design and implementation of a prototype XY table machine for PCB, text, image drawing, and perforating, specifically for drilling certain letters. This machine is built upon open-source software and low-cost hardware components. The machine incorporates three motors to control the X, Y, and Z axes, each with its respective function: the Y-stepper motor facilitates left and right motion, the X-stepper motor controls front and back motion, and the Z-Servo motor manages the up and down motion, all according to specified dimensions. These axes are controlled by the Arduino Uno microcontroller board, while these motors operate within a limited work area, with dimensions of 40 mm for the X-axis and 40 mm for the Y-axis. To utilize the machine effectively, users need to convert any image or text file into G-code using Inkscape software and then transmit it to the machine using G-code sender software. This work has been successfully designed and implemented within the Control and Automation Laboratory of the Department of Systems Engineering at Al-Nahrain University.
