Risk of Infection and Colonization of Symptomatic Urinary Tract Bacteriuria in Type-1 and Type-2 Diabetic Patients

Urinary tract infection (UTIs) is more common in diabetic patients. If a person with diabetes eats food, then it will not be metabolized properly. A full amount of urine does not pass through the bladder outside the body; some amount of urine remains in the urinary bladder, which acts as an enriched medium for pathogenic microorganisms. The signs and symptoms of UTIs are the same in diabetic as well as non-diabetic patients. The prevention of UTI depends on how severe the infection is, whether it affects only one part of the urinary tract, e.g., the bladder, or whether it will spread to the kidney. Due to the increase in the degree of multidrug resistance (MDR) in urinary pathogenic microorganisms, the availability of antimicrobial agents is less. The anatomically UTI is distributed to upper and lower urinary tract infections, and sometimes both exist. The diabetic patients are at higher risk of UTI with certain evidence. Here, we examine the microorganisms that play a role in UTI and colonization in diabetic patients. Here, we have also discussed various risk factors that make microbes multidrug resistant.
