Mathematics in India: Pluralism and the Possibility of Dialogue
摘要
The resistance towards a meaningful understanding of different mathematical forms arises from the presumed universalism of mathematics. This universalism is exemplified in the ontological and epistemological claims of mathematics. However, this presumed universalism has been questioned by the pluralistic approach to the ontological, epistemological and the foundational aspects of mathematics. This chapter describes the approach of pluralism and argues that this approach is helpful to understand other traditions of mathematics.
