Green Innovation from a Circular Economy Perspective: The Application of Image Analysis and Recognition in the Reduction and Resource Utilization of Construction Waste

Our research introduces an innovative image data-processing system for efficient construction waste management, essential for environmental sustainability, and circular economy growth (Zhang et al. in Resour Conserv Recycl 144, 52–61, [1]). This system incorporates advanced lateral and directional image data analyses, including sophisticated image pre-processing, to accurately identify and segregate construction waste. Key innovations involve computing adjacent lateral feature values, enhancing edge detection, and assessing directionality in waste imagery. Empirical evaluation of this system shows significant improvements in sorting accuracy and efficiency, supporting effective recycling and sustainable practices. Aligned with circular and green economic objectives, it demonstrates potential for responsible waste management in urbanizing areas.
