Study on Dynamic Loading of Composite Metallic Materials with an Interlocking Structure
摘要
One of currently important areas of development of materials science is designing and studying new metallic composites, which are increasingly used in aerospace engineering, the automotive industry, and transport engineering. A considerable practical interest lies in one of varieties of metallic composites, namely interlocking composite materials produced by assembling unit elements of the same shape and size from dissimilar materials. This research is aimed at studying the effect of combinations of materials of interlocking composite structure elements on resistance to dynamic loads. SIMULIA/Abaqus software suite was used to develop a finite element model to study strain of interlocking composite structures. The paper studies how the arrangement of tetrahedral elements from different metallic materials influences load-carrying capacity of the material. It has been found that the arrangement of assembly elements considerably influences response to impact loads. The research results contribute to designing interlocking composite materials, showing higher mechanical properties and combining high strength and toughness.
