Reflections on the Ancient Books

  • Xueqin Li

摘要

The abundance of ancient books handed down over the generations is evidence of China’s world-recognized long history of ancient culture. When people refer to the Chinese classics, they often justifiably use translated Chinese expressions to describe the abundance: “so many books as to make the ox carrying them perspire enough to fill a house to the rafters,” or, “so many to be as vast as the smoke and the sea.” Such classic ancient books can be considered information passed on by our predecessors. Past ages are long gone, but just as our senses receive sound and light waves from afar, books can convey their information about ancient times.
