Advanced Treatment Techniques for Deodorisation of Industrial Off-Gases and Wastewater Pollutant (BTEX) Removal

Gaseous emissions and wastewaters are common unintentional outcomes of industrial manufacturing processes. People are complaining more and more about industrial product odours because of rising industrial production and population growth. Numerous social awareness campaigns put pressure on businesses and service providers to take the appropriate actions to reduce the emission of malodorous substances. Information on several cutting-edge technologies for deodorising wastewater and industrial emissions is presented in this chapter. Thermal, physico-chemical, and other techniques, which are neither prohibitively expensive nor environmentally harmful, are typically employed to purify these pollutants. Since microbiological procedures are less expensive and operate at room temperature and pressure, they are thus tectonic. Another reasonably priced technique for treating wastewaters containing BTEX (Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, and Xylene) is biomass-derived biochar. The current chapter’s goal is to use microbial technology to deodorise foul-smelling gases and wastewaters containing BTEX under current threshold value of 5 μg/m3 on an average annually.
