Ethnomedicinal Plant Database for Drug Discovery: A New Era

Ethnopharmacology remains a central feature in traditional medicine as well as pharmacology for new drug discovery. Globally, there has been a paradigm change toward multimodal natural drug development methods. Many contemporary medications have their roots in traditional medicine and ethnopharmacology. Bioactive phytochemicals are abundant in the traditionally utilized therapeutic plants. However, the quick advancement of modern technology has spurred pharmacognosy multi-omics research, leading to a number of discoveries about important genes, metabolites, and enzymes involved in production and regulation of active compounds. In contrast, computational techniques such as molecular dynamics, in silico docking, and network pharmacology have been used in recent years to identify the active ingredient. By using these technologies, we may conduct research on the screening of novel compounds using a database and software to establish natural products as a valuable source for drug development. A thorough review of the literature preceded the creation of the database. Important details about a chemical molecule, information such as its CAS number, name, plant origin, extracted fraction, and structural data including the SMILE Code, and InChI Key, are recorded when it is extracted and isolated in a laboratory. Databases like PubChem and CheMBL can be used to assemble basic information about chemical substances. The data should be added to MySQL after collecting and compilation of the final information. Additionally, the ADMET properties of IMPDB phytochemicals were compared with FDA-approved drugs.
