RNA Sequencing Approach for Genome-Wide Transcriptome Profiling in Ethnomedicinal Plants

Ethnomedicinal plants are species of plants traditionally used by indigenous cultures for medicinal purposes. These plants have been an important source of natural remedies for centuries, treating various ailments and diseases. They are a rich reservoir of bioactive compounds with potential therapeutic applications. RNA sequencing is an advanced technology that can be used to study the entire transcriptome of an organism. This chapter summarizes how the transcriptome profiling of ethnomedicinal plants uses the RNA sequencing method. RNA-Seq allows for a comprehensive analysis of gene expression in ethnomedicinal plants. It provides insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying their medicinal properties, which can help understand their potential therapeutic effects and develop new drugs. By examining the transcriptome of ethnomedicinal plants, researchers can gain a deeper understanding of the biological processes and pathways involved in their medicinal properties. Further, this chapter describes the significance of RNA-Seq and some recent advancements in transcriptome study and its applications. Also, it provides valuable transcriptome information on medicinal plants for identifying novel genes and pathways that may be involved in synthesizing and producing bioactive compounds in ethnomedicinal plants.
